South Baltimore Little League (SBLL) was established in 1957 and is chartered through Williamsport Little League. We have provided recreation services for thousands of children between the ages of 4-16. We are a nonprofit 501C3 volunteer organization that operates a Little League Program at 1101 East Fort Avenue in the heart of south Baltimore City in Locust Point.
Did you know that "Little League® Baseball began in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in 1938, when Carl Edwin Stotz, an oil clerk, agreed to a game of catch with his nephews:– Jimmy and Harold “Major” Gehron – who were too young to play organized baseball. Acting on a promise to find a way for children to play baseball like the Major Leaguers of the day, Mr. Stotz created a three-team league that would play on a field that was two-thirds the size of a standard baseball field. After being turned down by 56 local businesses, Mr. Stotz convinced a lumber company, a dairy, and a pretzel maker to sponsor the teams for $30 each. On June 6, 1939, the first Little League game was played at Park Point in Williamsport."
Our Mission is to instill in the community’s youth the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, and respect for authority. We want to give today’s youth every opportunity to be well-adjusted, strong and happy children who grow into healthy and trustworthy adults as well as community leaders. Our intention is to provide a supervised baseball program that supports youth development through positive quality leadership and that focuses first and foremost on good sportsmanship and teamwork.
